How to Get from Salisbury to Stonehenge Without a Car

Getting to Stonehenge from Salisbury without a car, public transport and shuttle options

Most visitors to Stonehenge arrive by car but that doesn't mean it's the only option. If you're travelling without a vehicle, Salisbury is actually one of the best bases for reaching Stonehenge by public transport or private shuttle.

1. Private Shuttle (Recommended)

The Salisbury to Stonehenge Shuttle departs from directly opposite Salisbury Train Station every hour. It's the simplest, most comfortable option for visitors without a car. £15 return, guaranteed seat, return pick-up from Stonehenge included. Book at salisburytostonehenge.co.uk.

2. Stonehenge Tour Bus

Salisbury Reds operates the official Stonehenge Tour bus hourly from Salisbury Rail Station. Hop-on, hop off service, approximately £17 to £22 return. Reliable and well established ideal if you also want to visit Old Sarum en route.

3. Taxi

Available from the station taxi rank. Direct and fast but significantly more expensive £60 to £100 return for a private hire. Best for groups of 5 or more where the per-person cost becomes more competitive.

4. Cycling

10 miles, 45 to 60 minutes each way. A good option for fit travellers with time to spare and no luggage. No secure bike storage at Stonehenge.

5. Walking

10 miles each way approximately 3 hours. Not practical for most day visitors, but an option for dedicated walkers prepared for an all-day expedition.

For the vast majority of visitors arriving into Salisbury by train and heading straight to Stonehenge, the shuttle is the clear first choice. Two minutes from the platform to your pick-up point. Book online in advance.
